Our studio approaches landscape design as a means to understand site elements (decorative, functional, and otherwise) to discern what the site offers and needs on two main levels: an inspiring and well-crafted experience for the individual or user group; and an encouragement of the ecological capacities for the non-human systems contained within.
This is short and long-term design thinking; a working method that values the unvalued not only for its own sake, but also in the ways systems thinking produces a better solution.
Todd Smith is a landscape designer who has built a referral business doing residential work and has recently expanded his scope of service to include green roof technology and community master planning.
His background is in botany and life science with garden design studies in Japan and an apprenticeship with a local designer in 1998.
Todd Smith Design provides landscape design and consultation for all scales of projects. We consult on, and design for, property investment value, on-site ecosystem services such as storm water management, and for completing the landscape with necessary and beautiful plantings and outdoor spaces.
